Malarkey Roofing Installation

How Mr. GoodRoof Installs a Malarkey Roofing System

Malarkey's Secure Choice™ system is built from five core product categories — but a proper installation covers your entire roof. Quick Answer

What is Malarkey's Secure Choice™ system?

Malarkey's Secure Choice™ system is five product categories: ice-and-water barrier, underlayment, starter shingles, field shingles, and hip-and-ridge shingles. Mr. GoodRoof evaluates the complete roof beyond those five products too — deck condition, flashing, drip edge, pipe boots, penetrations, and ventilation — as part of every Malarkey installation.

A dedicated Mr. GoodRoof project manager oversees the project from material verification through final quality review, coordinating the installation team. Certified Premium Warranty eligibility depends on an eligible system, a Certified Premium Contractor, qualifying accessories, a sound deck, and proper installation; the contractor must register the warranty within 45 days of installation.

The Secure Choice™ System

What's included in a Malarkey Secure Choice™ installation?

Secure Choice™ names five defined components — but Mr. GoodRoof's scope of work goes beyond the shingle itself on every job.

The Five Secure Choice™ Components

  • Ice-and-water barrier
  • Underlayment
  • Starter shingles
  • Field shingles
  • Hip-and-ridge shingles

Certified Premium Warranty eligibility requires this system built from Malarkey shingles and at least four qualifying Malarkey accessory products.

What Mr. GoodRoof Evaluates Beyond the Five

  • Roof deck condition
  • Flashing, drip edge, and pipe boots
  • Roof penetrations
  • Wall/sidewall transitions
  • Intake and exhaust ventilation
  • Adopted code requirements
  • Closeout documentation

Before Work Begins

What happens before installation starts?

A dedicated Mr. GoodRoof project manager verifies materials and builds the project scope, identifying the specific Malarkey products, accessories, and ventilation plan for your home before work begins.

How does Mr. GoodRoof inspect the roof deck?

After tear-off, the deck is inspected for rot, delamination, or soft spots.

Every Malarkey installation starts with material verification and a full roof deck inspection.

Installing The System

How is a Malarkey roofing system installed?

1

Leak barrier placement

Ice-and-water protection is installed in applicable leak-prone areas — such as valleys, roof edges or eaves, sidewall transitions, flashings, skylights, and penetrations — based on roof design, the selected Malarkey system, current installation instructions, and adopted code.

2

Starter shingles

Mr. GoodRoof uses the approved Malarkey starter product specified for the selected system, such as Smart Start® for qualifying architectural installations or Windsor® Starter where required for Windsor.

3

Hip-and-ridge shingles

Malarkey's hip-and-ridge products are engineered to match the field shingle system; substituting a generic product can affect Malarkey's enhanced wind-warranty path.

4

Flashing, drip edge & pipe boots

Flashing, drip edge, and pipe boot replacement follow Mr. GoodRoof's brand-wide roofing standards. See our Complete Roofing System page for the full policy.

5

Ventilation

Intake and exhaust are evaluated for the specific attic and roof rather than defaulted to one solution.

6

Fastening requirements

Malarkey's current enhanced wind requirements call for four nails on starter and laminate shingles and five nails on Windsor shingles, installed in the prescribed nailing area — or another fastening pattern when required by current product instructions or adopted code.

Certified Premium Warranty

How does installation affect warranty eligibility?

Warranty eligibility depends on more than the shingle.

Eligibility for the Certified Premium Warranty depends on an eligible Malarkey system, a Certified Premium Contractor, qualifying accessories, a sound roof deck, current Malarkey installation instructions, proper installation, and applicable code requirements. The certified contractor must purchase and register the warranty within 45 days of installation and provide proof of purchase.

Who oversees the installation?

A dedicated Mr. GoodRoof project manager oversees the project from material verification through final quality review, coordinating the installation team and helping ensure the roof meets Mr. GoodRoof and manufacturer requirements.
