Saw a “Free” Class 4 Shingle Upgrade?
A free Class 4 shingle may be a real benefit. But the shingle is only one part of the complete roof you are buying. Mr. GoodRoof compares the exact product, installation scope, warranties, payment structure, and total project economics.
Qualified retail residential full-roof replacements only. Exclusions and published program terms apply.
Is a free Class 4 shingle upgrade a good deal?
It can be—but the advertisement alone does not establish the value of the complete roof. Verify the exact Class 4 product, tear-off, decking, underlayment, flashing, ventilation, accessories, warranties, financing costs, and total installed price. When a current written offer is genuinely comparable and qualifies, Mr. GoodRoof guarantees its qualified final price will be at least $500 below the verified competitor price.
Bring us the offer before you sign.
We review what the proposal states, what it leaves unclear, and whether the complete roof is genuinely comparable.
- Start the request. Share your contact and property information.
- Send the written proposal. A PDF or clear phone photos work once the secure upload form is connected.
- Receive the result. The outcome is either a verified $500-below price, confirmation that Mr. GoodRoof is already at least $500 lower, or a written Scope Difference Summary.

Submitting a request does not guarantee eligibility. Do not include Social Security numbers, banking details, or unrelated sensitive information in an uploaded proposal.
The Class 4 shingle may be free. The complete roof is what you are paying for.
The promotion tells you a Class 4 product is being included at no additional stated line-item cost. It does not, by itself, establish the complete installed value.
- Which exact Class 4 shingle and product package are included?
- Is that specific package identified as UL 2218 Class 4?
- What standard product is being “upgraded”?
- What is the complete cash price or total financed cost?
- Is the existing roof fully removed?
- Is flashing replaced, reused, or not specified?
- Is intake and exhaust ventilation evaluated?
- Which manufacturer and workmanship warranties apply?
- Which costs can be added after tear-off?
- Are permits, disposal, taxes, fees, and required accessories included?
Both proposals may say Class 4. That does not make them equal.
A Class 4 designation addresses impact testing. It does not tell you whether the rest of the installed roof is complete, documented, or priced the same way.
| Ask about | Why it matters | What should be stated |
|---|---|---|
| Exact product and package | Not every shingle or package carries the same qualification or belongs to the same product tier. | Manufacturer, product line, package, and impact classification. |
| Tear-off and decking | An overlay or unclear deck policy changes the system and potential future cost. | Number of layers removed, deck inspection process, and unit pricing. |
| Flashing | Flashing treatment affects leak risk and must be stated—not assumed. | What is replaced, reused, evaluated, or excluded. |
| Ventilation | Intake and exhaust conditions can affect roof performance and manufacturer requirements. | Evaluation method, calculations, and any proposed corrections. |
| Accessories and installation | Starter, ridge, underlayment, penetrations, fastening, and cleanup are part of the installed roof. | Named components, installation standard, permits, disposal, and cleanup. |
| Warranties | The exact manufacturer and workmanship terms matter more than the word “lifetime.” | Coverage, non-prorated period, registration, exclusions, and transfer rules. |
| Payment and total price | A monthly payment alone does not establish the complete project cost. | Cash price or comparable total financing economics, mandatory fees, and dealer costs. |
Start with the Class 4 system Mr. GoodRoof recommends.
Malarkey Vista® AR is Mr. GoodRoof’s preferred Class 4 shingle for Middle Tennessee and the default comparison product for most qualifying retail offers. It is an architectural Class 4 shingle made with NEX® rubberized asphalt.
When an approved written equivalency matrix identifies a genuinely higher-grade competing Class 4 product, Malarkey Legacy® Scotchgard™ may be used as the premium architectural tier. Windsor remains Malarkey’s separate designer-shingle line and is outside this campaign.
Three possible outcomes. One written process.
Already at least $500 lower
The promise is already satisfied. Mr. GoodRoof documents the aligned comparison and makes no additional adjustment.
Comparable, but not yet $500 lower
Mr. GoodRoof adjusts the qualified final price to at least $500 below the verified competitor total.
Not genuinely comparable
The guarantee does not apply. Mr. GoodRoof identifies what is different, unclear, or missing through a Scope Difference Summary.
The promise applies only to a genuinely comparable complete roof.
- Current, genuine, verifiable written proposal that remains valid at review.
- Same residential property and same full roof-replacement project.
- Named UL 2218 Class 4 product in an approved comparable tier.
- Comparable measurements, roof sections, access, installation scope, warranties, mandatory fees, and payment structure.
- Submitted before another contract is signed or installation begins.
What does not qualify
- Insurance-settlement, contingency-contract, carrier-controlled upgrade, or deductible-waiver pricing.
- Repairs, partial replacements, overlays, and commercial projects.
- Expired, altered, withdrawn, unnamed, or unverifiable proposals.
- Employee, family, special-relationship, or other restricted pricing.
- Materially different financing structures or costs that cannot be normalized fairly.
- Combination with any other Mr. GoodRoof offer or discount.
Free Class 4 upgrade and Best Price Promise FAQs
Is a free Class 4 upgrade really free?
The product may be included at no additional stated line-item cost. The advertisement alone does not establish the complete installed roof value, total financed cost, or whether the rest of the scope is comparable.
What does Mr. GoodRoof compare?
Mr. GoodRoof reviews the property and measurements, product tier, tear-off, decking, underlayment, water protection, flashing, ventilation, accessories, installation, warranties, mandatory fees, payment structure, and total project economics.
What happens if Mr. GoodRoof is already lower?
If Mr. GoodRoof’s qualified final price is already at least $500 below the verified comparable competitor price, the Best Price Promise is satisfied and no further adjustment applies.
Does financing qualify?
Financing is reviewed case by case. The comparison must use genuinely comparable total project economics, not a monthly payment alone. Materially different financing structures or costs that cannot be normalized fairly may not qualify.
Does the offer apply to an insurance claim?
No. Insurance-settlement, contingency-contract, carrier-controlled upgrade, and deductible-waiver pricing are excluded. Mr. GoodRoof does not promise a Class 4 upgrade at insurance pricing and does not waive deductibles.
Are Class 4 shingles hail-proof?
No. Class 4 is an impact-test classification, not a guarantee against all hail damage, cosmetic damage, granule loss, or future insurance claims.
How long is this promotion available?
The initial public offer window ends . Mr. GoodRoof may extend, revise, suspend, or withdraw future availability. A written offer already accepted under the published terms will be handled according to that acceptance.
How quickly could the roof be installed?
Qualifying sold projects are targeted for installation within one week of sale, subject to weather, permitting, material availability, unusual project conditions, and production capacity.
